As the autor of the “Multidimensional Portrait” project, I aimed to challenge traditional notions of portraiture and delve into the depths of human emotion and perception. This unique photographic project comprises six black and white portraits of the same individual, all captured from the exact same perspective. However, what sets these photographs apart is that each one captures a distinct emotion etched onto the subject’s face.

To elevate the concept further, I decided to integrate these six photographs into a Rubik’s cube, with each image occupying a different plane of the cube’s six sides. This ingenious design allows viewers to interact with the artwork by physically manipulating the cube, essentially reshuffling the facial elements from one photograph to another. This process results in the creation of entirely new compositions and images, thus breathing life into the concept of a multidimensional portrait.

The multidimensionality of this project is twofold. First, it arises from the three-dimensionality of the cube itself, which imparts a sense of depth and volume to the inherently two-dimensional photographs. Second, it stems from the content of the photographs themselves, with each one encapsulating a different facet of human emotion. The act of rearranging the cube’s elements mirrors the process of composition, allowing viewers to become co-creators of the artwork as they explore and experiment with the emotions, expressions, and stories that emerge from the shifting facial features.

I intentionally chose the black and white medium for these photographs to draw the viewer’s attention away from color distractions and instead focus it squarely on the emotional content and the overarching concept. By stripping away color, I sought to emphasize the raw, universal nature of emotions that transcends cultural and personal differences.

In “Multidimensional Portrait,” my aim is not only to challenge conventional photography but also to encourage viewers to actively engage with the artwork, uncovering the rich tapestry of human emotion and perception that lies within each of us. This project invites the audience to step beyond the confines of traditional portraiture and explore the boundless possibilities of multidimensional art.
